Alijah Arenas Makes Challenging USC Trojans Debut
Los Angeles ? Alijah Arenas faced difficulties in his long-anticipated debut for the USC Trojans against Northwestern, following a knee injury recovery sustained last summer after a car accident in the spring. In a 74-68 defeat to the Wildcats, Arenas scored eight points, contributing to the Trojans' record of 14-5 and 3-5 in the Big Ten. He played for 29 minutes but struggled offensively, shooting 3-for-15 overall and missing all six attempts from beyond the arc. His free throw performance was also subpar at 2-for-6, alongside two rebounds and two assists.
Coach Eric Musselman expressed enthusiasm about Arenas' return to practice, highlighting his basketball IQ and energy. Arenas, son of former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas, had a challenging recovery journey that included an induced coma due to smoke inhalation from a car crash. After surgery for a torn meniscus, he was finally cleared to practice. The 6-foot-6 guard was previously recognized as a McDonald's All-American and five-star recruit from Chatsworth High School.
